5th Annual
Rob Machado Surf Classic
|
| Cardiff
by the Sea is located about 20 miles north of San Diego and is the place
to be when the Rob Machado Surf Classic & Beach Fair is happening. This
is a community surfing event presented by the Cardiff Chamber of Commerce.
rob machado, along with several local businesses and volunteers join
together each year to host a weekend surf event that is second to none. There was something for surfers of all shapes and sizes: Longboard and Shortboard surfing competition for both men and women in every age group from Menehunes (kids) to Grand Masters (over 50), an 11 mile Paddleboard race featuring none other than surfing legend Mike Doyle, and both a 1/2 mile and a 1 mile open water swim race sponsored by Swim West. As you can see from the photos the surf was cooperating for the 2nd year in a row with 3-5 foot glassy surf all weekend. Music was going throughout the surfing event with something like 14 different bands doing their thing and the beer garden was serving up beers from a host of San Diego brewers. |
