5th Annual Rob Machado Surf Classic, Surfing from Cardiff California

Cardiff by the Sea is located about 20 miles north of San Diego and is the place to be when the Surf Classic & Beach Fair is happening. This is a community event presented by the Cardiff Chamber of Commerce. Several local businesses and volunteers join together each year to host a weekend event that is second to none. There was something for everyone: Longboard and Shortboard competition for both men and women in every age group from Menehunes (kids) to Grand Masters (over 50), an 11 mile Paddleboard race featuring none other than surfing legend Mike Doyle, and both a 1/2 mile and a 1 mile open water swim race sponsored by Swim West. As you can see from the photos the surf was cooperating for the 2nd year in a row with 3-5 foot glassy waves all weekend. Music was going throughout the event with something like 14 different bands doing their thing and the beer garden was serving up beers from a host of San Diego brewers.
